The day was filled with educational workshop presentations and featured speakers all chosen to support renewal, inspire hope, infuse new ideas and concepts, and to remind each of us that our collective worth is more valuable than any one of us acting alone.
Marilyn Stine, the morning’s keynote speaker, presented an incredible inspired topic, Forgiveness: The Key to Wellness. She addressed the 5 keys to forgiveness: Self Compassion, Let go of anger, Love yourself, Change your story and be grateful. Understanding the physiologic impact of unforgiveness will enable people to live a healthy and rewarding life.
Our two featured workshop presenters: Dan Dubovsky and Dianna Brocious presented Improving Outcomes for Youth and Families by Recognizing Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. They provided an overview of the impact of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) on youth, young adults, and their families. They discussed the fact that FASD is most often not recognized or diagnosed in the state of PA. Frequently, these youth are misdiagnosed with a number of mental health and behavioral issues that leads to inappropriate interventions for these youth at home, in school, in treatment, in correctional, and in vocational settings.
We extend a special note of deep appreciation to everyone who helped make this conference another great success, in particular the conference sponsors – Community Care Behavioral Health, Cornerstone Counseling, LINK (PA link to Aging and Disability resources), Hanover Hospital, Mike and Lynn Fiery, Miller Chemical & Fertilizer, LLC, Retreat at Lancaster Count, TrueNorth Wellness, White Deer Run, Pennsylvania Recovery Organizations Alliance, Hanover Area YMCA, PNC Bank and Stuart Lebo. When people and organizations choose to donate not just money but also time, energy, talent, hard work, and skills to support a community organization, the impact is immeasurable.
